Haruyuki Uchida

Born Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan in 1952.

Lives and works in Japan.

Haruyuki is a renowned Japanese sculptor in the field of kinetic art. He completed post graduate studies in sculpture in 1978 from Kyoto Seika University and has been the recipient of numerous sculpture prizes for his beautifully inspired large scale works.

Haruyuki uses magnets as a material often to create illusionary effects in his works. The sculptures are made of stainless steel, are predominantly painted in ‘Shu-iro’, a bright Japanese red, with the magnet discretely placed to create the intriguing and delicate play with balance and gravity.

Haruyuki has exhibited extensively and is held in private collections through out Japan. Haruyuki first exhibited with Sculpture by the Sea , Bondi in 2005 when he was the Transfield Holdings Invited Artist. He has since become a regular favourite and fascinating part of Sculpture by the Sea in both Bondi and Cottesloe.
